How do you fancy a bit of retail therapy? Well there are a number of village markets every day throughout the Costa del Sol, Andalucia and the province of Málaga.
Those within easy distance of Villa Chile are marked with a star. The others are some distance away, but if markets are your passion then they are well worth the drive
Each village hosts a colourful and lively street market at least once, sometimes twice a week. Some also have a regular flea market, car boot sale, antique or art market.
Most street markets have a variety of stalls where you can find local fresh produce including fruit, vegetables, olives, nuts, herbs, plants and flowers. Plus a variety of handicraft stalls which sell pottery and jewellery, ceramics, metalwork, and a host of other imaginative products unique to country life in Southern Spain.
You will also find clothes from all over the world, shoes, watches, sunglasses, handbags, suitcases, kitchenware, CDs, furniture, pictures, linen, blankets, towels, underwear, swimwear and all kinds of seasonal items.
Almost always, street markets and covered markets run in the mornings from 9.00 or 10.00h to 14.00h, however in the summer and during fiestas, many coastal towns have night markets that open at dusk and stay open until 2.00am

Thursday Frigiliana Markets
Thursdays in Frigiliana means "Market Day"Its a large market and is generally extremely good value for a morning out, in a tradional Andalucian village. The village boasts lots of friendly bars, cafes and restaurants where tourists and visitors can chill out afterwards.
The market is held in the centre of the village on the roof top of a new public parking building - just in front of where the bus stops and the main roundabout.
The market is extremely popular and is always teeming with people wandering around and looking at the stalls, which include clothes, shoes, handbags, food stuffs and a variety of ceramics and knick knacks. Antonio's fruit and veg stall is a must if you are looking for fresh and quality local produce. He sells straight out of his van - his usual patter is "€1 per kilo", but you can be sure you will walk away with far more than one kilo.
As the crow flies, Frigiliana is approximately 8 kilometres from Competa, however by car the journey takes a little under an hour. Both villages form part of the traditional scenic route of the sun and wine.Other Thursday markets can be found at:

Competa Saturday Markets
Competa village markets date back to Roman times when the village was known as a town of the cross road where people came to shop and sell products.
Competa now has a weekly market on Saturday - it starts at 9.am and finishes around 13.30pm. Its located in the large car park close to the Cafe Cómpeta.
Stalls offer a great selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, olives and spices plus a variety of colourful ceramic items, many of which are extremely usful kitchen and dinning nick nacks. Some of the stalls are operated by Morrocans who sell things quite cheaply. It is possible to get good bargains, however you need to pay attention to detail because very often cheap goods mean shoddy workmanship, so be careful.
Its also possible to buy CD's, clothing and other household goods at excellent prices.
The market has a friendly atmosphere and is well patronised by locals and visitors alike - is a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
The earlier you go the better, because there is limited parking due to the fact that the market display takes up 4 rows of the large car park.
Other Saturday markets can be found at:
Coin (Fair grounds on Malaga Road).
Fuengirola Fantastic Flea Market (Los Boliches).
Malaga - Barriada del Palo.
Mijas Costa - Las Lagunas.
Estepona Charity Market Plaza de Reloj.
Nueva Andalucia antique & weekly market (bull ring).
Ojen (Main Square).
Sunday
Nerja Sunday Markets
The Nerja Market usually gets going between 08:30 and 09:00 and most people start packing up at about 14:00. The market "Rastrillo" is clearly signposted from the centre of town.
By car, head out of town along calle San Miguel in the direction of Maro, turn left at the Burriana roundabout (exit 3) into calle Julio Romero. The road bears right and then about 250 metres further along on the left there is a turning (calle Cisne) to Almijara II and the market
The local ‘Blue Bus’ stops near the market. The ‘Blue Bus’ starts its journey from the Hotel Monica in avenida Mediterraneo and follows the route: calle Chaparil, calle Antonio Ferrandis ‘Chanquete’, calle San Miguel, avenida de Pescia, calle Julio Romero, calle Cisne. There are frequent regular bus stops along the way.
Nerja"s Sunday market is more of a flea market style, so this is the place to shop if you're looking for something different/unique, rather than just food items. Dont forget to take plenty of money and haggle over the prices. Pickpockets are common so hang on to your purse/wallet.
Other Sunday markets can be found at:
Alhaurin el Grande (fortnightly Car Boot/flea market).
Benagalbon.
Cartama.
Castellar de la Frontera (Las Jarandillas).
Estepona (Marina).
Fuengirola Marina (Flea Market).
Malaga (Flea Market, near La Rosaleda stadium).
Malaga - Avda.de Martiricos.
Pizarra (Car Boot/flea market).
Ronda, Sabanillas (Flea Market).
Sabinillas Flea market.
San Roque - Barriada Ollivos.
Sotogrande (Marina).
Torremolinas - Recinto Ferial.
